Fassbender Gallery is pleased to present Lake Dreams, a series of new paintings by Chicago artist Pala Townsend. These nature related abstractions are inspired by Lake Michigan. Her sensations of water, light and forest are distilled into the liquid ambiguities of paint. For her, the lake takes on the connotation of the primordial waters, a place where all life and memory begin. These paintings will surprise the viewer with their translations into blurred and shimmering paint, at times appearing almost holographic. At other times, the out of focus markings speak the graphic language of photography and video pixelization, but elude specific meaning. |
