Chicago sculptor Diane Simpson will present new work in Fassbender Gallery’s Project Room. Utilizing a variety of industrial and everyday materials, the artist creates finely crafted and minimal sculptures that take as their source material seemingly mundane objects, whether clothing, architectural detailing or domestic tools. Simpson deconstructs these in schematized drawings that then lay the groundwork for reconstituted forms retaining the skewed perspective of their previous diagrammatic incarnation. Hybridizing clothing and buildings, Simpson distills their collective essence and common goal of containing humankind. Through these trappings, the artist investigates how we choose to portray ourselves. |
