Fassbender Gallery is pleased to present a new series of paintings by Brigitte Riesebrodt, a German-trained Chicago artist. These recent works find the artist continuing her ongoing investigation of textured surfaces as abstractions of nature and its processes. Riesebrodt's collaged paintings use the inherent qualities of found objects, and are heavily worked to reveal strata-like layers beneath the surface. This exhibition marks Riesebrodt's fourth solo show in Chicago

Brigitte Riesebrodt's paintings are all about the material feel of art. It is physical and sensual, yet the materials she uses, most notably post bags, are transitory objects, never meant to do the work of supporting paint

Riesebrodt's abstraction aims to heighten our awareness of materials rather than of inner states. Her color-sense in particular does so. A richly layered earthy palette fixes our eyes on the paint itself. These are paintings you want to put your hands on. But in their material fragility and color dissonance they dramatize also that you are laying hands on something unfamiliar, ...... In this drama lies her power as an artist, and her place as a contemporary witness.
