Showing concurrently with David Bierk's Eulogy to Beauty is the work of fellow Canadian Nasco Pelev. Pelev presents Feast, an exhibition of new paintings that skew found imagery. However, this painter does so through the specific use of and reliance upon classic Modernist abstraction. Taking advertising images of foodstuffs as a starting point for this body of work, Pelev abstracts these to investigate their appeal. Relying heavily upon intuition and reinterpretation, he strives to keep his compositions formally simple to isolate and observe their most basic components.
