Jennifer Mannebach studies life experiences and how they are recorded. By photographing constructed tableaus made up of cast off materials containing a great variety of character, this artist addresses the diversity of growth processes seen all around us. She records the building up of textures through time and use, and makes us aware that layering and weathering can represent both aging and ornamentation. The artist confuses and combines these two, exploring their boundary. As in her past sculptural work, she pays special attention to waste and its definition, what she calls 'abject' space. By photographing wasted spaces and lowly materials, she embellishes the common and combines the decorative with the merely worn and well-used. In this way, she draws attention to the inherent beauty of the everyday. Jennifer Mannebach's photographs are presented in Fassbender Gallery's Project Room. Continue to artwork... |
