Fassbender Gallery is proud to present paintings by Berlin-artist HELMA. This exhibition, titled "Blütenträume (Flowering Dreams)", represents German-nature Romanticism at its finest. Supended in a dream-like state, these sensuous paintings are formidable psychological landscapes that evoke a mysterious other-world where nature is a metaphor for human emotions. Pain, desire, and passion are common themes found in these natural abstractions. HELMA uses lush-color and light to create a dream-world where despair becomes hope; and faith transforms death and decay into rebirth and renewal. 1997 PRESS RELEASE The paintings of the Berlin artist HELMA are menacing psychological landscapes full of lush colors. Natural forms convey human pain; the tree is a metaphor for the artist, its roots and branches become blood-engorged veins, vegetation takes on a life and purpose of its own. Despite the weighty subject matter, the surfaces of the paintings are delicately executed. The paintings exist in a dream-like state full of other-worldly light that entices the viewer to enter and explore his or her own psyche.
